On Samudra surf and yoga retreats, our yoga is about fun and learning. Learn more than just yoga poses. You will experience a different culture, eat healthy foods and engage in the intimate practice of yoga with new friends. We practice the Astanga system, which can provide a foundation for living and a constant direction in your life. We offer the Astanga practice and Surfing with Yoga Nidra, rejuvinative yoga and Sumarah Meditation.
The practice of Astanga yoga is an ancient and powerful discipline for cultivating physical, mental and spiritual growth. Progressive techniques of breath, posture and movement, cleanse, stretch and strengthen the body. It focuses and calms the mind, and a deeper experience of the self becomes possible through consistent practice.
Yoga means to yoke or to harness. In philosophical terms it means a refined rejuvenative reunion with "self". Yoga is a journey of self-discovery. Our hectic modern day lives tend to make us lose touch of ourselves - yoga restores the body and mind to its fundamental state of well-being, peace, and vibrant alertness and leads to balance and harmony in all areas of life. The daily morning practice reinforces these.
Our yoga classes and yoga retreat sessions keep the muscles for surfing supple and strong. Looking beyond just stretching, we aim to develop a greater internal awareness of our body. This will tap into the core strength and stability used to maximize our surfing.
Rejuvinative Yoga: In afternoon sessions we come together to cover more subtle techniques. We work on creating an understanding in our body through specific warm ups. For example releasing tension from the hips and shoulders.
