Retreat Run Down
Your Byron Bay Samudra retreat synthesises the practice of yoga with surfing. We offer each guest an experience that promotes the unification of the mind, body and soul.
Practicing yoga will develop focus, strength and flexibility. Surfing will develop your confidence, stamina and ocean awareness. The individual focus of the program is balanced by a group dynamic, laying the foundations for friendships that will last a lifetime.
Samudra has developed an accelerated surf program that is safe and comprehensive and thus removes many of the hurdles associated with learning to surf. Our highly trained and experienced team will address technique, equipment, oceanography, safety, etiquette, and your specific goals.
Similarly our Yoga Instructors focus on the individual, providing you with the opportunity to evolve a dedicated self practice so that you can work with individual body challenges, maintain agility and continue to surf and play for many years to come.

Detailed Daily Program
Every day you will arise to the smell of fresh air and view of the ocean. On site, your teachers will guide you through your morning yoga practice in order to explore your unique self and surpass your self imposed limits.
After yoga, the group will then share a morning meal together - an experience in itself. To nourish and maintain your energy levels as all meals are vegetarian made from fresh organic produce, prepared by your in-house Samudra Chef.
Then down to the beach we go, to learn or develop your surfing ability under expert guidance from our personal surfing instructors. Here you will learn all about the ocean, the way waves are formed, the way rips move, different sorts of waves and how best to tackle them. Free time in the afternoon will allow for more surfing, resting, swimming, sunbaking or exploring the coast.
Our afternoon yoga class will focus on the more specific details of the practice. Here we will address specific questions, covering meditation, yoga nidra, Pranayama- the art of breath control and the effects this has on your mind and body. This class is intended as a rejuvenative reunion with the self.
Then after taking time to absorb the lessons of the day, the group will meet for a delicious meal of organic high-energy foods that nourish the body and soul. Night is a time for rest and reflection - a chance to embrace what you have given yourself during the day. Often in the evening we will host guest speakers or relax in front of a Surf or Yoga-related movie.
Meals
Based on ayruvedic, macrobiotic and raw food, vegetarian meals will be provided each day. We bring all these principles together by focusing on the common thread - which is that good, local produce prepared in a spirit of love is the best food around! We believe this will enhance your physical and mental abilities on the retreat and inspire a healthy and energetic lifestyle. Our very own Samudra Chef will be on hand to share their wealth of knowledge and accommodate your specific dietary requirements. (Please see Vitality Food section for more info)
